O, FREEDOM--Max Smith, a noted local baritone, sings a spiritual during a commemoration ceremony at the STUAC Theater last Saturday night. The event marked the dedication of five banners in memory of the first inductees to the National Abolition Hall of Fame, located in nearby Peterboro. Along with Harriet Tubman (banner shown), the inductees include Frederick Douglass, Lucretia Coffin Mott, William Lloyd Garrison, and former Peterboro resident Gerrit Smith.

The day's events included symposia for the inductees led by national scholars, a dinner hosted by MSC President Ray Cross, and the final commemoration ceremony, led by former MSC Vice-President Lawrence Baker of Hamilton.
