The Morrisville State College Men’s soccer team rolled into Mustang Weekend and crushed Wells College by a score of 5-0.

The Mustangs brought their previous three out of four game win streak into Morrisville State College’s premier weekend and came out successful. Just 10 seconds into the contest, Sophomore Andrew Ketchum scored off of a Bob Riley assist. After that, Morrisville never looked back. Ketchum ended the day with 2 goals and an assist, Freshmen Gabe Parra-Merrell added two goals and Freshmen Segun Ajiboye scored once. Morrisville’s goalkeeper Brad Reed recorded 8 saves.

The day after Morrisville State College’s special win on Mustang Weekend, the Mustangs traveled to Green Mountain College, where they were defeated 1-0. The only score of the game came in the second half of an extremely wet and rainy game.

Since winning their first-ever NCAA Division III competition against Hilbert College 3-2 in a thrilling finish back on Sept. 10, the Mustangs dropped a rematch against Medaille College and then went on to defeat Keuka College 2-1 and shut out Cazenovia College, 3-0.

The team is beginning to exploit their strengths and sort out their weaknesses. “We’ve been getting along better and the last couple games we’ve just been playing more as a team,” junior captain Joel Bezner said following the Cazenovia game.

The Mustangs rebounded from a 4-0 loss against Medaille College with a victory over the Keuka College Storm on a late score. After a scoreless first half, freshmen Segun Ajiboye put Morrisville up on the board with an unassisted goal twelve minutes into the second half. Keuka College’s Ian Stevens responded just five minutes later and tied the game at one goal a piece. In an intense second half, freshmen Gabe Parra-Marrell scored with under ten minutes left in the contest off a Zachary Austin assist to win the game outright.

Morrisville continued their strong play by blanking the Cazenovia College Wildcats 3-0 on Sept. 23. Freshmen goalkeeper Brad Reed posted nine saves in the victory and recorded his first career collegiate shutout.

Morrisville defeated Wells in a rematch on the road on Oct. 14, 3-1.

The Mustangs currently have a record of 5 wins and 8 losses. The team's game against Geneseo State was canceled Saturday. They wil end their season this Saturday on the road at Oneonta State.
