The
women’s softball team started their season off stronger than
last season, winning three out of eight games played during spring break in
Florida, making their record 3-8 overall.
Last season, the team
returned to Morrisville from training in Tuscon, Arizona with an 0-10 record. This season, the team improved by three
games, stealing wins from Concordia University and Carleton College.
Coach Robin Penoyer said she
was pleased with the way her team performed over break and hopes for even
more improvement. "Spring break, we as a team did better
than last season," she said.
"We know we could have, should have had
another win or two down there, but that is what spring training is longer
get you prepared for your season up here."
The Mustangs' first win of
the season was a 4-3 victory over Concordia University, making their spring
break record 1-1.
Although the team lost their
first game to Mount Mercy as well as matches to Fairleigh Dickinson
University, Felician College, Indiana Tech and others, the Mustangs came
back to win their last two games both versus Carleton College, beating the
Knights 5-2 and 5-0.
The Mustangs encountered a
very close loss matchup against Fairleigh Dickinson University, falling
short by just one run.
"We did work out a lot of
kinks while we were south,” Penoyer said. “We had some surprise performances
from many players.""I think we will be competitive and we
will win a few more games for sure."
