The women's lacrosse team lost for the first time this season Tuesday, April 1 against SUNY Potsdam by a score of 19-12. The Lady Mustangs are now 2-1 on the year and have a conference record of 0-1.

The team had a busy weekend coming up with an away game Friday and then home games both Saturday and Sunday.

Goalkeeper Stephanie Smith said she likes how the team has performed so far and is looking forward to the challenging games that lie ahead.

Though the ladies couldn't muster a win on Tuesday, the game was not without its high points for Morrisville. Junior attacker Kayla Miller, the team's leading scorer, added four goals and an assist to her stat count and midfielder Jennifer Caffarelli put up one goal and two assists in the loss.

"All in all the season is going our way," said Smith, who had a save percentage of .50 against Potsdam, "and I hope it finishes out our way."

The ladies are coached by Erynn Anderson, who formerly played at Fredonia, and Adair Milmoe, a graduate of William Smith College who also coaches field hockey for Morrisville.

Smith said the coaching staff this year is "amazing" and that the team has really taken to them well.

Tuesday's game was supposed to be played here at Morrisville, but shoddy field conditions forced the game to take place at Chittenango High School where, according to the Morrisville website, only about 30 people showed up to watch.

This means, assuming there are no more displacements, the ladies will have a total of only four home games all season.

Both coaches and players said they'd love to see a lot of student support for the few home games they have.

With some tough competition, like Cortland and Geneseo, soon on its way, the ladies' training and tenacity will be put to the test.

"We want to win, who doesn't?" asked Smith who then added, "But if we don't win, we aren't leaving without a fight."
