Air Anime sets high standards

For all you drama and romance fans, here’s an astounding anime series that will certainly sooth your needs. Air TV is just the anime for you. The second DVD has just been released into the United States in English.

The story is about a young man named Yukito Kunisaki. When his mother died, she left him with a talent to animate his puppet without the use of strings. She also left behind an old story about a girl with wings who flies in the sky.

On his journey to find some answers, he comes to meet a mysterious young girl named Misuzu. Misuzu is a very loving girl that has recurring dreams about flying in the sky. Also, her health is constantly degrading, causing her to miss a lot of school, and it seems to be linked with Yukito.

Because Yukito is a traveler and has no place to stay, Misuzu invites him to stay with her and her aunt Haruko, who is looking after her. On their journey they meet plenty of new, mysterious girls, including Michiru, Kano and her puppy Potato, her older sister Hijiri, and Minagi, who all seem to have their own secrets. Gradually Yukito finds himself wrapped up in their stories while trying to figure out if any of the tantalizing allusions to the girl with wings means anything.

Between Misuzu always tripping, kids always dissing Yukito over his puppet, the lovable dog Potato, and Michiru attacking Yukito at every opportunity she gets, the series offers enough comedy relief to prevent it from becoming solely a serious story. The actors who did the English version did a relatively good job with this anime as well. If you have seen the original Japanese version, this one isn’t too far off.

With the first couple of episodes simply introducing the characters, there is no real plot to the story as of yet; it gets much better later in the series. Whatever the series may lack in storytelling, it certainly does not lack in visual quality. The soundtrack is also wonderful. It works best in its gentle piano numbers, which provide a pleasant, mood-setting sound.

Of all the drama series I have watched, this one has made me cry by far the most; either from the pain and sorrow the characters are experiencing, or from laughing too hard at the comedies that happen. Poor little Misuzu tries her hardest everyday--smiling and being so kind to others--that when she gains something wonderful…well, I think I’ll let you find that out for yourself.
