This season the Mustang women’s soccer team started off fresh with a new coach, Christopher Perkins. Perkins is entering his first season as the women’s soccer coach and as director of intramural activities at Morrisville State College. From 1990 to now, Perkins has been working in different athletic departments at different colleges. In 1990, Perkins graduated from SUNY Cortland with a degree in physical education. He was the assistant women’s soccer coach there, where they advanced to the NCAA Regional and claimed an NCAA National title in 1992. After SUNY Cortland, Perkins was the head coach at In 1996, 2000, and 2006, Perkins was named the Atlantic Women’s Colleges Conference (AWCC) Coach of the Year. “I think that Coach Perkins is doing a great job this year with us,” said Katie Tiffany, goalie for the Mustangs. “We're having tremendous improvements compared to last year.” This season the Mustangs have nine fewer players on their squad than last year, when 23 women played. More importantly, they have no upper-claasmen on the team. “The fact that we don’t have many subs does hurt us a lot, but I feel that we are handling it very well so I’m very proud to say that I am on the team,” Tiffany said. Last Tuesday night, the Mustangs played a losing effort against Medaille College, “Despite the score and the weather, and the quality team we were competing against, I believe Morrisville Women’s Soccer Team played a tremendous game,” said Perkins. The Mustangs lost, 7-0. “Laying their hearts on the line to represent their school, their team, and themselves, I believe they comported themselves quite admirably” said Perkins. “I’m very proud to be associated with a great group of young women.” The Mustangs fell to SUNY Potsdam 5-0 last Saturday,
and last Sunday they lost to This weekend was not much better; they dropped a 3-0 decision at home Friday to SUNY Oswego after trailing just 1-0 at the half. Yesterday they hosted Cortland State and lost, 9-0. Their overall record now stands at 0-8-1.
