The Mustangs got their first win of the season Saturday, beating SUNY Maritime on the road, 39-38. Quarterback Billy Polling threw two touchdown passes and ran for 73 more yards as Morrisville won for the first time after four losses.

On Sept. 22 the Mustangs faced Kean College, losing their fourth game of the season, 34-6.

With their third loss of the season to Western Connecticut by a score of 44-16, the Mustangs were in need of offense. They got it at Maritime--and some luck, too--as a last-minute extra-point try hit the goal post and bounced out.

Head coach Terry Dow explained the difference in moving up to NCAA Division III. “It has been a difficult transition," he said. "Most colleges have many juniors and seniors; we don’t. At most, we have eight returning members.”

The teams The Mustangs face are teams that have been in the division for a while. The Colonials have players that are upperclassmen, as do many other colleges. Morrisville is mostly comprised of freshmen. Dow said it has been a big change for the entire team, changing the way they practice and the way they view their competition.

Training daily, working out, and going to classes, the players on the team are trying to make sure their season is as good as they can make it.

The Mustangs have three more home games this season. The next home game will be during Mustang Weekend, on Saturday, Oct.13 against Salisbury University at 1 p.m.
