CAMPUS

Morrisville library exhibits work of local artist

It's not every painter who gets hailed as a distinguished artist. On Sept. 12, such an artist held a reception at the Butcher Library with an open viewing of her art.

Small man, big ideas: Hogle speaks of James Madison

To celebrate the 221st anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution the campus held its annual Constitution Day on Sept. 16.

Legend grows of unknown streaker

There seems to be a phenomenon streaking through the men's dorms on Morrisville State College campus. The streaker, known to students by names such as “Dorm Streaker,” “White Knight” and “Hung Solo,” has been spotted several times this semester as well as last semester, galloping through dorm halls.

EDITORIAL

Georgia-Russia conflict evokes cold war memories

In early August, US-Russia relations were stressed once again due to the developing territorial conflict between Russia and the U.S.-backed Georgia over the two Georgian break-away provinces, Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Now, the political tensions between the two superpowers have escalated to what some are calling a Cold War scenario. Threats and signals are being sent between the two that are reminiscent of the days of the Cold War.

Education vital for inmates' rehabilitation

Every year hundreds of inmates struggle to make the transition back into society after living behind bars.

Funding for the war on drugs would be better spent elsewhere

In 1970, President Richard Nixon signed the Controlled Substances Act of 1970 into law, making numerous drugs illegal, including heroin, cocaine, LSD, PCP, and most controversially, marijuana. This piece of legislation bleeds into the official policy of the United States, the War on Drugs, brought about by Nixon to combat rising drug usage amongst the youth counterculture of the 60s.

LIFESTYLE

Shield Review

The Shield has been one of FX network’s biggest shows for the last six seasons. Now in its final season, the show is only getting deeper as each episode creates the wonder of what will be the fate for the lead character, Vic Mackey, in the final episode.

Silent Hill: I'm sorry, but you really can't go home again

To some, the smell of freshly fallen leaves means football. To some it means cider, both cold or hot depending on your preference. To me, it means scaring myself stupid with my favorite horror movies and games. Yes, fall is not so much a season to me but an excuse for Halloween to exist. One of my favorite ways of experiencing the season is playing through all the Silent Hill video games, re-experiencing all the chills and terrors that the most evil New England town in existence has to offer. This year there is a new entry in this great survival horror pantheon, Silent Hill: Homecoming. This new game is equal parts completely worthy of the name and so very frustratingly wrong.

Spore will suck you in to an incredible world of your own making
Imagine yourself as a single cell organism; a little speck in the tide pool. You float around, eat algae or other itty bitty organisms. You grow bigger and stronger and find yourself eating larger morsels with each passing millennia.

SPORTS

Men's Soccer
The Mustangs were able to strike fear into their opponents early this season. They won their first game of the season against Franciscan University and tied Pitt-Bradford at the D’Youville College Tournament, they would win that tournament. It was a fair start that gave the team a shot of confidence. They then dropped their next two games, but got back on the ball quickly. A win against Hilbert College and an overtime tie against Cazenovia College improved the team to 2-2-2. A recent win over Albany College of Pharmacy improved them to 3-8-2.

The heart and backbone of the 2008 Mustangs

The 2008 Morrisville State Football team has seven seniors this year. Two of these seven players really stick out of the bunch.
