In October Morrisville State College became quite popular among a number of news outlets.

The media were not discussing our sports teams, our new bachelor’s degree programs, or even our proposed budget cuts. Instead, they focused their attention on our very own Steven Brody, who several reports dubbed the "sticky-fingered" campus cop.

Brody acquired the "sticky-finger"name when he was caught stealing Tastykake pastries from the Valero Nice ‘N Easy convenience store on Route 20.

Brody reportedly was a frequent customer who took advantage of the free coffee offered to any police officer in uniform. Brody reportedly applied his own discount: the five-finger kind.

According to an article in the Syracuse Post-Standard, employees caught Brody snatching Tastykakes and concealing them in his newspaper or shirt.

At one time, he took as many as four. After a warning in March Brody took a week off from his alleged pilfering. But, surveillance cameras show he persisted to take Tastykakes on at least 17 different instances since Aug. 18.

Brody was charged with petit larceny.

Jessica DeCerce, director of public relations and government affairs at MSC, said she could not give out any information about any future repercussions made against Brody as it is a personnel matter. "He is on leave pending the outcome of his case," DeCerce said.

Brody’s story has been featured on NBC, The Record newspaper out of New Jersey, on Privateofficernews.com (an outreach website of the National Association of Private Officers), on Yahoo News, and a number of local papers and new stations.

The story even managed to get in AOL’s Weird and Strange News.

The total cost of the Tastykakes Brody pocketed reportedly amounted to about $29.
